     White water Rafting

If you are a fan of water sports, you must take advantage of Cocke County's blossoming white water rafting industry on the Pigeon River.  Located in Hartford, just off 40 at exit 447, and just minutes from the North Carolina state line there are twelve rafting companies waiting to take you on the wild water adventure of your life.  Come to Cocke County and ride five miles of white water containing eighteen class, two, three, four rapids on the upper Pigeon River in professionally guided, six-person rafts.  Each reputable company employs only certified guides and maintains the highest standards of operation.  The Big Pigeon River is also the site of the annual Champion International White water shoot out, featuring America's best boaters.

For people not wanting to experience the rough and tumble ride of the Upper Pigeon River, or for those people who have never been white water rafting before, a calmer, more serene route is available through all the rafting companies utilizing the the lower Pigeon River.  This more laid-back and scenic section of of the river is perfect for a family float.  Why go to an amusement park just to stand in a line for a man-made water ride when Cocke County has the natural alternative coursing through the Cherokee National Forest and engulfed in the shadows of the wonderful majestic Great Smoky Mountains.

     Fishing

There are many fishing opportunities in the area, here are a few:

     ALLEN BRANCH POND:  Fishing, wildlife viewing, interpretivesignage, enjoy the sites and the sounds of a warm water pond ecosystem.

     BIG PIGEON RIVER:  The Big Pigeon River has been designated a state trophy.  There is a twenty(20-size limite) on all smallmouth bass.

     DOUGLAS LAKE:  A main reservoir for the TVA, this lake offers many fishing opportunities.

     FRENCH BROAD RIVER:  When you fish the French Broad in Tennessee besure to fish the deeper holes in the river next to the moving water, the tactic produces big smallmouths.  On the other hand cast into swift runs and work the bait into the slackers water.  Either tactic is deadly, and all you need is an ultralight spinning rod and reel with a medium action.  There are a lot of river lures out there that work and are deadly.  Grubs are an all-time favorite, as well as crawfish plugs.  They both imitate one of the standard food sources found in the French Braud's waters.
